A book review- "Five point someone"

After a lot of hue and cry about the move " 3 Idiots" my family and I along with our cousins decided to hit the theaters to watch it. Honestly, I liked the movie, but not so much as to rave and rant about it to people who have not seen it yet. Frankly what was so idiotic about what these guys did in their institute, in the movie? According to me, the three fellows were not idiots, they were just trying to change for the better  a not -so -good system and had the guts to atleast try and make an effort to change that system. Is that being idiotic? I am not so sure. And an "idiot" according to the Merriam Webster is " a foolish or stupid person" and the other highly offensive meaning is "a person affected with extreme mental retardation". Yes, the three fellows did one foolish thing like stealing the question papers, but then again, one of them did not feel it right to even look at it let alone reading it. Did the director and producer know the meaning of the word "idiot" before making this movie? Hmmm.

Now, the book on which the novel is based " Five point someone" is very ordinary to say the least and yes the movie is definitely based on this novel! Too bad Chopra sir you cannot fool me on that one! Another friend of mine who has read the book found it very pedestrian! I definitely liked the author Chetan Bhagat's writing style but somewhere I felt like "what the hell is he trying to say?" Maybe I missed the point but the book does say "what not to do at IIT". Then, what is it that you are NOT supposed to do at IIT? Or is it just that one should not have a 5 point something grade average? Help! someone, anyone!

The book also tends to be a little childish. I think the child in me has died, hence I cannot identify with the childishness of the narrative. It felt like it was being written by a teenager with so much passion and rage and what not. Nothing wrong with that, only that Chetan Bhagat was far from a teenager when he wrote "Five point someone".

I am now looking to read his other novel titled " One night @ the call center"
